Ski flights taking off in Hamburg
Skiing and winter holidays are becoming more and more popular with Hamburg passengers. Flights to the three most popular skiing destinations, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Klagenfurt, have carried 45 percent more northern German passengers over the past ten years. The airlines are responding to growing demand by offering more flights and increased seating capacity to ski destinations. For the 2017/2018 winter, a total of eleven European destinations with nearby ski resorts are being served with direct flights from Hamburg Airport, bringing passengers to their favourite slopes.
Hop! Air France celebrates inaugural flight from Hamburg to Nantes
Air France subsidiary flying to French university city three times per week
Hamburg Airport celebrates a double premiere Hop! Air France is a new airline for Hamburg Airport. Since 30 October, the Air France subsidiary has linked Hamburg with Nantes in France, operating three flights per week all year round. The inaugural flight on the route was officially celebrated today. Nantes is also a completely new destination for Hamburg’s timetable. There have never been scheduled services between the two cities before. Flights from Hamburg to the university city on the Loire will operate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Fly from winter to the sunshine: Airlines offering swimming and sunbathing destinations
For the 2017/2018 winter season, the airlines are focussing on winter sun destinations, but there are also ski resorts in the timetable. Two completely new destinations are joining Hamburg’s route network: Seville and Nantes. On another seven routes, passengers will now have the choice of additional airlines.

The continuing development of airport competition in Europe
This report from Oxera conducted on behalf of ACI confirms that the trends in the aviation market which drive airport competition are continuing. Indeed, in certain key respects they are gathering pace. Most notably, low-cost carriers (LCCs) continue to increase their share of the short haul market (with the greater mobility of services between airports that implies) and the hubs in the Middle East and Turkey have grown significantly, creating greater competition for European hubs and amongst European airports for the ‘spokes’ into their hubs.

Hamburg is set to become a top centre of research and science in northern Europe, according to Mayor Olaf Scholz. International competitiveness can be measured by a company’s power of innovation and the ability to establish new technologies, products and services successfully on the market. The city is already well on the way to that goal as exemplified by the recent opening of the European X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) at DESY.

Hamburg ranks second on Deutsche Post AG's "Happinness Atlas 2017"
Hamburg has ranked second on Deutsche Post’s seventh Happiness Atlas. The survey took account of categories such as general contentment, housing and leisure, work as well as health and income. People in Hamburg expressed above average satisfaction in all categories and had the highest disposable income. Schleswig-Holstein topped the ranking with 7.43 points above the German average of seven points.
Over 4.2 million guests flock to Elbphilharmonie in first year
A delighted Olaf Scholz, Mayor of Hamburg, led the first anniversary celebrations to mark the opening of the Elbphilharmonie’s Plaza. After exactly one year, the magnificent landmark had welcomed 4,235,000 visitors. Dr. Carsten Brosda, Minister of Culture and Media, and Christoph Lieben-Seutter, General and Artistic Director of the Elbphilharmonie, also attended the festivities.

Hamburg Christmas markets
27 November - 30 December, 2017
Discover history, tradition and a Hanseatic heritage at one of Hamburg's many wonderful Christmas markets. The prettiest is set just outside Hamburg's most impressive town hall. Hosted by Roncalli's Circus, you can discover lots of lovingly decorated stalls and the punch is even served by clowns and circus artists. But there are a variety of other 'styles' of market dotted around the city.

The global market leader for the world's aircraft interiors industry, Aircraft Interiors Expo is the launch pad for cabin programs, showcasing tomorrow's designs, in-flight entertainment, connectivity and passenger services.

Around 25,000 athletes and more than 750,000 spectators from all over the world gather every year for Germany's largest spring marathon. Its course leads past Hamburg's top sights - and the event has only seen very little rain since its inauguration over 30 years ago.

The Port of Hamburg is honoured each year with a big birthday party - the world's largest port festival. It has a long tradition in Hamburg and is very popular with locals and visitors alike.
Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival
The Japanese cherry blossom festival with firework display is being held on the Outer Alster since 1968. This gift from the Japanese community to the City of Hamburg brings hundreds of thousands of people to the Alster every year.
